Through mindful movement
My teaching philosophy
We spend our entire lives learning from external sources. But do we ever stop to ask ourselves why we do this?
We are searching for one thing: contentment. We search through our experiences, material possessions, relationships, physical bodies. Unconsciously, we are striving to become the ideal person based on the requirements that modern society has carved out for us — because we crave acceptance. But by doing this, many of us become trapped in a life that doesn’t necessarily align with our true sense of self.
When we do things that go against what we think we’re “supposed” to do, it’s scary. It’s scary because what we’re really saying is that we no longer need to be accepted.
However, if we can learn to accept ourselves, this won’t matter anymore. What if instead of studying the things we’re taught to care about, we studied ourselves? What if we spent more time listening instead of searching? What if we treated our own lives like we treat our careers? Who are we actually when we remove the external layers?
Yoga is the study of the self. Through physical movement and meditation, we can see what lives deep inside of us. We become our own teachers.
